Term 4, 2022 Newsletter
Dear Parents/Guardians

The weeks seem to go by in a flash at the moment, as we are well into the rhythm of the fourth term. Anyone who has worked in a school will understand how frenetic life can be. Everyone is working to complete deadlines for the year, but at the same time planning has to be put in place for the next year to ensure that 2023 starts smoothly. “A home must be built on solid foundations if it is to last. The same principle applies to children, otherwise they too will sink back into the soft ground and become swallowed up by the world of illusion.” – Sai Baba

Never in history have human virtues been so battered. There at times immoral character of modern society continues to sacrifice values at the altar of expediency. Mahatma Gandhi’s seven dangers of human virtue are clanging loudly today:
• Wealth without work • Pleasure without conscience • Knowledge without character • Business without ethics • Science without humanity • Religion without sacrifice • Politics without principle Is it not alarming that this is so prevalent in our lives right now? However, through your rites of passage and life through Skyline Combined School you received far more than a simple education.

We have come to the end of the academic year, 2022 this year. It was going to be challenging but we are confident that, in partnership, your child, our teaching team as well as our parents, have made this year successful – academically and socially.

 • Your child has to take responsibility for his/her actions. If they do something wrong, they should accept the consequences.
•The Matric exams started last week 31st October. A culmination of 12+ years of formal education.

• Sports:
We took part in a soccer tournament [Fire and Ice Soccer League] for 8 schools both Public and private. U15 and U19 boys and girls. We are number 4 with boys and number 3 with the girls’ tournament with 2 games left to end. Ever M was voted the goalkeeper of the Season. We hope that next year we shall aim much higher

• Dress code:
We expect learners in School uniform Monday to Friday. Only school jerseys, drimac jackets or track suits. A white shirt or school sports T-shirts can be worn and only acceptable school beanies. Anything not Skyline uniform will be confiscated until end of the term (14th December).
Civvies is every first (1st) Friday in the month. Parents we urge that you ensure that your child is dressed in proper uniform before leaving for school every morning. Hair must be worn according to school rules. No cuts for boys, girls styling and use of wrong hair bands or bandanas or gaudy jewelry. Refer to the code of conduct in the diary.

 ON-GOING CHALLENGES IN 2022
Discipline:
We have recorded a lot of cases about moral decay (deteriorated behaviour and or indiscipline) amongst learners of different age brackets. We have tried all means to address this but serial offenders are going to be issued with transfer letters as we see no change in their behaviour.

Lucky juice:
We have a challenge with learners given money and end up buying and licking lucky juice. A sachet of 5g is meant to be dissolved in 2litres of water unfortunately they smoke it and it is a strong concoction to be smoked through the nasal cavity hence damaging it.

Fees: Fees are payable in 11 installments. We expect accounts to be closing now but we still have some parents who still owe a lot towards the 2022 fees. We urge parents and or guardians to settle their accounts before the end of November.

Late coming: We are grateful to Parents who have ensured that their children are at school and on time however we have certain learners’ inspite of all the reminders are habitual late comers. Reasons given include: transport, over sleeping traffic etc. Late coming obstructs classes and a learner’s life. We are going to have these habitual late comers advised to look for school’s closer to them and or where the time is suitable.
 • Keep absenteeism to an absolute minimum. It is for a learner to miss school because of sickness that doesn’t lead to hospitalisation but just a home bed rest.
The School will need a doctor’s note upon return and without it we require a parent to report to the Deputy’s office for a written warning.
 • Vandalising of school property: Parents whose children vandalised school property are requested to pay for your children’s mistakes urgently. As the adults in the “relationship”, we need to lead “by example”.Encourage your child
• Be proud of your child
• Support your child
• Praise your child
• Be aware of your language around your child
• Respect the educators – they really are there for your child • Enjoy the rest of the year with your child and us. Let’s make the best of it!

Term 4 Exams: We have started with our Term 4 exams. We urge parents and guardians to ensure daily attendance and punctuality to avoid learners missing out on these promotional term exams.

 Yours in Education,

Miss JL. Moyana          Mr Fred Kakonge            Mr Mubaraka Ssesanga
